There is nothing as spectacular as the changing of the aspens in Colorado. We will drive to the top of Independence Pass where we will let you off to ride down into Aspen (19 miles). We'll regroup at the Jerome Hotel and continue on to the Red Stone Inn for a little hot tubbing and a delicious dinner.
We will head up McClure Pass. This is one of the most beautiful passes in Colorado. The paved road winds gradually up to the summit of 9,000'. We will be surrounded by large golden aspens and the clear skies of Colorado. Once on top of McClure Pass, we'll descend for twenty miles until we reach the turn-off for Kebler Pass. We'll have lunch by a creek and then head up the hill to the summit. This afternoon ride takes us through the largest aspen groves in the world. Once at the top of the pass the last eight miles are all downhill into Crested Butte. We'll load everyone up and head out to the Waunita Hot Springs for the next two days.
We'll explore all the roads out of the hot springs that are great for biking....pick your level: easy, moderate or advanced! Alpine Tunnel, Hancock Pass, and St. Elmo are all possibilities. If you are not into biking on Saturday, a horseback ride and lunch at the hot springs is available. After biking and horseback riding we'll regroup at the hotsprings for dinner and a nice soak. Bed will look good!
Heading home we will load bikes back on the vans at the bottom of Monarch Pass. On the other side of Monarch Pass is the Mountain Spirit Winery where we will stop for our picnic lunch. We will conclude the ride in Colorado Spring by 5:00pm.
